Creativity is central to spiritual life. It could be said that Creativity is the dividing line between progressive and conservative religion, especially among the three great Abrahamic faiths—Christianity, Judaism and Islam. Whereas conservative traditions tend to reinforce the values of obedience, conformity and discipline, progressive religious strains affirm the creative values of individuality, personal authority, innovation and change. Creativity is one of the primary avenues to an encounter with the sacred—and one of the means by which the sacred “enters” the world.
