November 9th, 2014: Melynda Okulitch: “A Moment of Peace During War”

During this 100th anniversary of World War I, we can take a lesson from the Christmas Eve moment of Peace of 1914.  A profound moment that was started by the German soldiers, embraced by the Allied soldiers, and forbidden by the horrified Generals of both sides.  Although I personally mark November 11th, I am uncomfortable with the usual Remembrance Day service and the glorification still of military might.  At the same time, I am grateful for those who went to fight for our country, and so sorrowful for the loss of life on all sides, for their families.  and for those maimed physically and mentally either as combatants or as victims of war.  Peace is a hard word, a hard concept but still worth our conviction.
